A Message to the
Parish
I am here
today to talk about a monument that is 5 feet 4 inches tall,
made of granite or marble and weighs 900lbs. This monument
is engraved with the Beatitudes on one side and the 10
Commandments on the other and with your help would be
installed on our Church grounds for all to see. Why would we
want to do this?
Over the past 30 years we have all seen a gradual decay of
morality in our country. There have been constant attempts
to remove anything related to God from public places and
from public view. The ACLU is not the problem but is the
symptom of apathy. We, the faithful, who do not stand up for
the faith are the problem. The late English Statesman Edwin
Burke stated it best when he said, “The only thing
necessary for evil to succeed is for good people to do
nothing.”
So what can we do to turn this around? Part of the solution
is for Churches to display support for God’s Law by publicly
displaying the 10 Commandments on private property for all
to see where they cannot be taken down. Joe Worthing,
executive director of Project Moses puts it in perspective,
“if the first place someone sees the Commandments is at a
county courthouse, that’s probably why he is there!"
(Pause for
a moment here)
Why are the
Commandments important? Can you or your children recite the
10 Commandments by heart? These Commandments will serve as
their moral compass the rest of their life. Your children
cannot be taught morality in public schools, in fact
they can be taught just the opposite. Don’t leave
something this important to other people.
We are all here because we are Christians, followers of
Jesus Christ. Jesus made it clear when preaching to the
crowds in his “Sermon on the Mount” regarding the
Commandments.
Jesus said, “Amen I say to you, whoever breaks the least
of these Commandments and teaches others to do so shall be
called least in the kingdom of God. Whoever obeys and
teaches these Commandments shall be called greatest in the
kingdom of God.”
It can’t be any clearer than that. Think of the monument as
a Silent Sermon available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
for all to see and read.
By joining The Commandments of God and Project Moses, the
parish will not only be displaying a monument on Church
grounds, but also helping to fund the National Memorial in
Washington D.C. and will be recognized as one of the donor
Churches on a display at that memorial. The central theme
will be a 20-foot statue of Moses holding the plaques above
his head with extended arms.
In fulfilling our mission to restore respect in the 10
Commandments, we hope to place these 10 Commandments in as
many homes as possible while erecting monuments at Churches.
So for a donation of $30 or more for the monument, you will
receive a Limestone Plaque of the 10 Commandments for your
home or office.
Volunteers are at the exits to take your generous donations
or if you do not have a checkbook or cash with you, don’t
worry, make a pledge and we will collect it from you when we
deliver your plaque.
Thank you in advance for supporting God’s Law!
